New Cover

Sadly, we have to wait until 2013 to read another Warriors book. But the good news is, there is a new cover for The Sun Trail. (cover on the right.) All images of the cover on the left have been replaced with the new one, and it is unknown why the cover changed. (Personally, I liked the old one better.) No matter what, we have to wait until March to read it.

Minor Updates

Happy September everyone, good luck to those going back to school and to those who have already started. Mistystar's Omen is released in nine days.

Updates: There are no new spoilers for Tallstar's Revenge at this time; Vicky is still writing story lines for it.
Also, if you do not have an eReader (Nook, Kindle, etc.) you can download the nook app on your iphone or android. Another option is you can download the Kindle settings to you computer here through amazon.com.

These are questions I've found from fans on Kate's blog and her facebook page, all answered by her! If you haven't read The Last Hope, there are some major spoilers here. Enjoy!

Question: I just want to ask that did YOU cry when you wrote Firestar's death scene?

Kate: No, but our editor at HarperCollins did and she's tough ;) (I did well up when Ferncloud and Mousefur died)

Question: WHY KATE DO YOU HAVE TO MAKE SPOTTEDLEAF DIE?

Kate: so that Firestar doesn't have to choose between her and Sandstorm in StarClan

Question:Did the Three lose their power after they defeated the Dark Forest?

Kate: No.

Rumors:

• It takes place around the time she gets her 9 lives

• It will take place during the battle with the Dark Forest, there wasn't much about RiverClan during The Last Hope

The Survivors series book #1 comes out August 21, 2012. It's 288 pages, and there is no description yet. Hollyleaf in 9 Days

Happy March everyone! We get to learn about what happened to Hollyleaf in the tunnels in 9 days. It's an ebook, but I hope to post it on this blog, but if not, you will definitely get a summary! More info & spoilers coming later this week, sorry there wasnt much info in this post.

38 Days...

...until The Last Hope is released! This book was written by Kate Cary instead of Vicky Holmes, they take turns writing the books. This will be the last book about the clans at the lake, when the 5th arc starts, the books will return to the forest!

Firestar is half-brothers with Scourge, I actually never knew that. Just posting this for anyone else that didn't know, apparently it's old news.

SkyClan

SkyClan has appeared in every single Warrior Cats arc, except for the first one. That leads readers to wonder if they will be featured in any way in the fifth arc. As Erin told us, the fifth arc will go back to the beginning of the clans, so my guess is yes, they will probably be in all six books of the new arc. We might even get to see the forest map with the SkyClan borders included! SkyClan's old territory might be somewhere within these red lines, it is one of the higher tree-populated areas.

Nothing has been confirmed by yet by Erin though!

Firestar's Death

Here is a list of cats from the Dark Forest that have been mentioned so far. Not much new WC information has come out, it's mostly just the old spoilers about The Last Hope; people talking about the death of Firestar and Brambleclaw and whatnot. It is unknown how Firestar will die, since he will have to die twice in the last book, but it will most likely be in battle. He is getting old, he's now become a grandfather (to Holly, Lion, and Jay) and a great-granduncle (to Ivy and Dove).

Why is Jaypaw blind?

"This is a question I get asked a lot and sometimes I'm tempted to reply, Because he was born that way! But I know what people really mean is, why did I choose to take away the sight of one of my central characters, when it might seem easier to keep all five senses intact for each hero? 

Well, why not? :) Being a hero doesn't depend on being able to see, or hear, or run extra fast; heroism comes from inside, from what sort of person (or cat) you are. I always knew Jaypaw would be one of the most important cats in Power of Three, so he needed to have the right sort of character even if he didn't have functioning eyes! He didn't need to be able to see in order to be bold, curious, and wiling to fight for what he believes in, which are all vital qualities for a hero. 

I also liked the challenge of writing from a blind cat's viewpoint. Jaypaw can't describe how a scene looks, but he has four other senses-scent, touch, taste, and hearing -- to fill in the gaps. I deliberately started Power of Three Book One: The Sight from his perspective because I wanted to fill the opening chapters with details that would trick the reader into not realizing the narrator was blind. We see busy scenes of Clan life and share the thrilling and perilous fox hunt with the three kits, and only learn that Jaypaw can't see when he complains to Leafpool that she's fussing over him too much. I wanted the readers to get to know Jaypaw, to share his sense of adventure and loyalty to his Clanmates, before they knew that he was blind, because that might have made him an object of pity. Jaypaw wants to be treated the same as all the apprentices -- and that means not being judged by readers, too! 

But even when you know that Jaypaw is blind, he's not the sort of character that you can pity easily. Frustration, disbelief, and sometimes downright anger, but never pity! It would have been too easy to make him a little blind saint, patiently tolerating his lack of sight while living a good and obedient life. But that would make for a very dull hero! Jaypaw is prickly and difficult, alternating between kicking against his blindness and insisting that it doesn't matter. He knows he has the same amount of courage and physical strength as any apprentice, and he hates the fact that he can't be the same sort of warrior as his denmates. When Leafpool invited him to be her apprentice, he saw it as a soft option, the only thing he could do because he couldn't see. In fact, Leafpool could tell that Jaypaw had huge talents as a medicine cat -- he memorized all the herbs and remedies without even trying --and when he started to talk about the future as if StarClan had revealed it to him, Leafpool knew that he had a special connection with their warrior ancestors as well. It was Jaypaw's destiny to be a medicine cat from the moment he was born --except, ironically, he couldn't see it for himself. 

On top of being blind, and bad-tempered, and ambitious, I wanted to make Jaypaw a cat with unique powers of sight. He can see in his dreams and in the dreams of other cats, which gives him access to their deepest thoughts and fears. He can also sense what cats are thinking -- something his brother and sister take for granted, but frequently get irritated by! -- and, as his powers mature, he is able to step into other cats' memories and live through events from their past. He has the most incredible gifts of sight, blind to superficial matters of appearance but able to see the truth of what is inside other cats. When we first meet Jaypaw, he is only a kit and he doesn't always know what to do with this knowledge, or how to use it for unselfish purposes. He is proud and stubborn, and thinks that being able to walk in other cats' dreams makes him stronger than them, able to take advantage, especially when he learns about trouble in other Clans. To fulfill his part in the prophecy -- There will be three, kin of your kin, with the power of the stars in their paws -- he must learn how to use his power for the good of more cats than just his Clanmates. So much more fun to watch him progress when his instincts were more selfish and even vengeful at the start! 

Jaypaw is a blind cat who can see in other cats' dreams, a hero who doesn't set out with the best intentions, a stubborn, difficult, prickly character who needs to win the respect of every cat in the Clans to live up to the prophecy cast many moons before he was born. The fact that he can't see is just one element of his personality -- and Jaypaw would be the first to tell you that he doesn't want to be judged on what he can't do! All these challenges and contradictions make him the most fun cat to write about and create stories for. And we haven't even reached the end of his apprenticeship…"

Something Bigger...?

How does Bumblestripe play such a big role in the last Omen of the Stars book? I don't even think Ivypool likes Bumblestripe, so they wouldn't fight over him or anything. I was thinking that Dovewing needed someone with a little more character, but like Vicky said, its an important part of the plot. So many WC fans have been talking about how much they dislike DovexBumble, so maybe Bumblestripe will wind up doing something bad in the end?

Book Updates

SkyClan & The Stranger: After The Flood: amazon.com says "Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available." This has been going on for awhile, the company that produces the Warrior Cats manga is having some problems (Tokyopop facebook page here) 


Hollyleaf's Story: (ebook) Not much has been released about this other then the fact that it is about Hollyleaf's life in the tunnels

Enter the Clans: Another field guide which is only Secrets of the Clans and Cats of the Clans combined, but it has a Survivors teaser and Yellowfang's secret info.


Yellowfang's Secret: Release date unknown, but it has been confirmed that Kate is not writing it

Cinderheart

Now that Cinderheart knows she's Cinderpelt, what will she do? Erin is making it seem like she will go back to being a medicine cat, but I have a feeling that she will do something very important in The Last Hope, since she was reincarnated. StarClan says she came back to the Clans to live her true life as a warrior, but this is a list of cats that started out as apprentices/warriors and were forced/decided to become a medicine cat:

• Jayfeather
• Littlecloud

So Cinderheart had to have come back for a bigger reason. Also, the prophecy, "The end of the stars draws near. Three must become four to battle the darkness that lasts forever. . . " In past series, whenever there was a prophecy with "..." at the end, it normally meant that it wasn't completed. For example: "Darkness, Air, Water and Sky will come together...and shake the forest to its roots" The prophecy was not told all at once. This was from The New Prophecy, the second arc of the Warrior Cats series.

Maybe there will be another part to the Omen of the Stars prophecy, maybe as the release date comes closer, more information will be leaked!

Book 6 Theories

After reading The Forgotten Warrior, many questions have been devised, all of which will be answered in The Last Hope, the long awaited sixth and final book for Omen of the Stars. Who will be ThunderClan's new leader? Why is Onestar always acting so mean? What will happen to Jayfeather after being falsely accused of Flametail's death? So many questions--and NO answers! Here are my theories:

• ThunderClan's new leader: it will not be Brambleclaw, there is a possibility that it would be Lionblaze, but I don't think that will happen. It will probably be a crazy out-of-the-blue choice, like Hollyleaf or Cinderheart
• What will happen to Jayfeather: I don't think anything will happen to him, because it is confirmed that he gets an apprentice in the 6th book.
• What will happen to the Clans: I'm pretty sure they will beat the Dark Forest, but barely. Erin cannot end the series with all the clans dying and having the evil cats take over!
• What will happen to Tigerstar: I think someone will kill him, from ThunderClan or one of his kin. Maybe Tigerstar will be the one to kill Firestar?

Survivors...?

This blog is strictly Warrior Cats--no Seekers, but after all the rumors about Erin's new series, Survivors, I had to make a post about it.

• It will NOT be written by the Erin Hunters we know-It will be different writers who are using the name Erin Hunter (confirmed by Kate)
• It's also rumored that there will just be more writers added to the "Erin Hunter Team" but that seems unlikely
• The animal species it will be about is unknown (the most popular choices so far are: wolves, birds, and horses)

I don't look into Survivors as much as I do for Warrior Cats, but if any major news pops up, I will definitely post it!

"There is gonna be a movie! I was wrong! They are working with big stars! Heres what I got so far... 

Zac Efron: voice of graystripe

Lionheart: voice of Liam Neeson

Bluestar: voice of Rihanna!? So that basically means Bluestar's gonna have an islanders accent!

Rusty/Firepaw/Fireheart/Firestar: voice of Elijah Wood!

The movie will be produced by New Line Cinema!

The characters will look very real though, Erin Hunter said they would look somewhat like Narnia's characters 

And they say it will be out 2010 or 2011"

As we all know, this never happened. There were rumors for awhile that there would be a warrior cats movie, but it was never confirmed by Erin. 
Then there was this:

"There are currently no planned Warriors movies; however, in an August 2008 author chat, Victoria Holmes said:

Hey, it's the movie question! Well, we are in talks with a major Hollywood production company at the moment, but it's the earliest possible stage, so there's no script yet, or any plans for a release date. Things are looking much more hopeful than they were a year ago, but I can't say there will DEFINITELY be a movie, nor can I tell you when it would come out. Sorry!"


But this was from 2008. Vicky also said in a chat: "Which animation studio is working on the Warriors movies? We're not at this stage yet, I'm afraid. We've got some big producers who are very interested in taking the project forward, and we may have a director who's willing to work on a script, but we're nowhere near finding an animation team or starting production."
Wikipedia later confirmed that there would be a Warrior Cats movie somewhere from 2009-2011, but that never happened.  So no, there is currently no warrior cats movie being created.  It would make a lot of money though, there's tons of fans out there. Vicky once said that the market wasn't interesting in a talking animal movie, but look at Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole! (talking owls, written by Kathryn Lasky) That movie was popular, it came out with a Wii and DS game as well as plush owls. Warrior Cats is so much more popular, it would be such a good investment.

Cat House

This is an article about a house in Japan made just for cats. The article is here.

Its cool that someone made a house just for these cats...but you know, not many people think, "I'm going to make a house just for my cats today." I guess that's why it's cool.

Another interesting thing I found is this video of a cat climbing up a wall here. It's following a laser pointer, and it climbs up a completely flat wall, its hilarious. Enjoy.

Slow Months

These have been some slow months for the warrior cats series. The last book came out in the beginning of July, and the next book, The Forgotten Warrior, doesn't come out until late November.

Here are just a few interesting things noticed by the WC fans:

1. Mistyfoot (RiverClan) was oldish when Firestar came into the clans, while Mousefur had just become a warrior. Now Mousefur is an elder, and Mistyfoot is RiverClan's leader. She has been around for every single book!
2. In Code of the Clans, there is a story about kits drowning and going to StarClan. There, they are adult cats. On the other hand, when Bluestar's kit died, Mosskit, it stayed a kit in StarClan.
3. In the first series, it was said that all apprentices must journey to the Moon Stone before they can be warriors. After Graystripe and Fireheart go to the Moon Stone, it isn't mentioned at all that any other cat went before they had their ceremony.
4. In Crookedstar's Promise, it says that Rainflower is Crookedstar's mother, but in Bluestar's Prophecy, it says his mother is Lilystem.
5. In sign of the Moon, Rock says he was the first Stone Teller, but then Jayfeather discovers Half Moon was the first. 

Warrior Cats Manga?

The company that produces the warrior cats manga series (Tokyopop) is no longer publishing books, although it was the second largest manga publisher in the U.S. After the devastation in Japan, the company had many lay-offs, and this is the result. The real problem is that they might not give away their publishing rights, meaning that no other company could publish the stories. The only other option is that they give them back to the authors, so hopefully we can still have the rest of the SkyClan & The Stranger books, unless they were already mass produced, then there's nothing to worry about.

Random WC Things

"Q: How big is the Thunderclan camp? I mean, is it as big as half a football field, or just an apartment backyard, or WHAT!? 

Vicky: Good question! It’s about ten acres, so ten football fields in a rough square."


I think Vicky misread "camp" and thought it was "territory".


"Q: Will you ever let Bloodclan show up again? I mean, it was a perfect group of villains! Wouldn't it be cool to have Bloodclan show up with a more evil leader than Scourge?

Vicky: Ah, I love how popular BloodClan is! I’m afraid they are no more, although we see their remnants in the Ravenpaw manga trilogy. Because they weren’t an organized Clan, united by common aims and a code of honor, without their dynamic leader Scourge they scattered to the four winds. Two cats try to resurrect the Clan but they don’t have a code of honor either so the cats are easily defeated once again."
